Central food licenses are activities undertaken by food businesses such as manufacturing, storage, distribution and retailing of food products. Depending on the nature of activities performed by the food business, the FSSAI license is issued as either a state license or a central license..

FSSAI is for the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India which monitors and regulates food-related business in India. This body was established to maintain the hygiene and safety of foods by reducing food adulteration practices and maintaining sales of sub-standard quality products.

The Authority issues food licenses to the business which engages in activities related to food or related products for human consumption and follows the rules and regulations to be followed by food business operators in India. Two types FSSAI License are issued in India, i.e. State FSSAI License and Central FSSAI License.

Required Documents

To simplify your process of enforcing the central license, we have computed the complete list of documents required at the time of obtaining the central FSSTA license.:

  • Formally filled and signed Form B of FSSAI rules
  • Plan the layout of the base with complete measurements of the construction and operating unit.
  • In case the applicant is a company: a complete list of directors such as name, address proof, contact details along with a copy of MOA, AOA & amp COI is required.
  • If the applicant is a partnership firm: A complete list of all partners such as name, address proof, contact details, etc. as well as a copy of the partnership deed is required.
  • The applicant in the case is a cooperative society: complete list of all the members such as name, address proof, contact details etc..
  • If the applicant for the license is a registered trust: a copy of the trust deed and records of the trustees are required
  • Address proof of Aadhaar is required, which can be any of the following documents:

    1. electricity bill

    2. Rent agreement

    3. Registry of the premise, etc

  • Food safety management plan or similar system in place
  • Sources of milk, raw materials and other food products.
  • NOC by municipal or local authorities.
  • If the applicant runs a hotel and the central license is obtained for the same, then the tourism certificate issued by the Ministry of Tourism will be compulsorily attached..

Eligibility and criteria

  • Dairy units produce a solid milk unit of 50000 liters or 2500 megatons of milk.
  • Processing units that produce 2MT vegetable oil per day
  • Slaughter unit with daily capacity of:
  •    1. 50 large animals
  •    2. 150 small animals
  •    3. 1000 poultry birds
  • Meat processing unit with a capacity of 50 KG or 150 megatons per day
  • Food processing unit with a daily capacity of 2 megatons
  • Export oriented units
  • The units feature cold storage or refrigerators with storage capacity of 10000 megatons or more.
  • Wholesalers are engaged in food business, with an annual turnover of more than INR 30 crores.
  • Retail traders and distributors are engaged in food business, with an annual turnover of more than INR 20 crores.
  • Businesses engaged in catering, restaurant serving food or food marketing activities with an annual turnover of INR 20 crores or more.

Renewal

If the license issued is expiring, food operators will have to apply for renewal of the same. As per eligibility, the applicant will have to apply in a duly signed and completed Form B or Form B, with the required attachments renewed.:

  • Self-declaration verified by an applicant
  • Passport size photo
  • Aadhar & PAN of applicant
  • Voter ID card or driving license of an applicant in support of identity proof

On receiving the application, the Authority examines and scrutinizes the renewal application. After completing the investigation and being convinced about the authenticity and information of the documents, the authority renewed the Central FSSAI license.
